The Trans Bay Cable Project is a public private partnership between Babcock and Brown and the City of Pittsburg that will provide San Francisco with a new source of electricity, without having to install a power generation plant.
The project will transmit electrical power between the transmission grid in the East Bay, which has excess electrical capacity, and the electrical transmission and distribution facilities in San Francisco.
The project is a cost effective, efficient solution addressing San Francisco's need for additional power.

Babcock & Brown is responsible for developing and financing the project in co-operation with the City of Pittsburg, the City of San Francisco, CAISO, and other stakeholders.
Once in operation, Pittsburg will take ownership of the Trans Bay Cable assets. Babcock & Brown will retain ownership of the transmission rights, and will turn those rights over to the CAISO for their control.
The Trans Bay Cable project will reduce the need for in-city generation in the City of San Francisco, and increase the overall security and reliability of the electrical system.
